About Robert Cohen, M.D., Ph.D. Psychiatrist

Bio

Dr. Cohen was born in Brooklyn, New York where he graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in chemistry. After receiving his PhD in Biochemistry from Princeton University, Dr. Cohen obtained a medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis. The University of Chicago was the site of his Psychiatry Residency. After serving as Chief Resident, Dr. Cohen received a fellowship at the National Institutes of Mental Health. After completing his fellowship, he stayed on primarily serving as a Section Chief conducting basic and clinical research related to mood disorders, schizophrenia, attention deficit disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder and Alzheimer’s disease. After 28 years at NIMH he left NIMH to accept an endowed Professorship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and UCLA. Seven years later he accepted a Professorship at Emory University, initially serving as Medical Director of the Geriatric Psychiatric Hospital (Wesley Woods) and subsequently as Director of all Hospital Psychiatric Services which included an Intensive Outpatient Program as well as a Partial Hospitalization Program.
