Bio
Dan Arnold is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who completed his MSW at the University of Maryland at Baltimore. He has over 20 years of experience providing psychotherapy and education to individuals across the age continuum. Early in his career, Dan worked with children and families in a residential setting and this experience provided foundational knowledge that has guided much of his subsequent work with patients.
A guiding principle in Dan’s work with individuals and families is the belief that relationship is elemental in establishing a safe and supportive environment that facilitates growth. Through the relationship, clients can begin to take risks and challenge long-held beliefs that may, in fact, be hindering their growth and sense of well-being.
As Director of Clinical Supervision, Dan is committed to ensuring that the therapy services at JF&CS are of high quality and designed to meet the needs of those served. This includes encouraging relevant training for clinicians in both practice standards and ethics as well as establishing relationships with the full continuum of treatment providers in the community. A primary focus of Dan’s clinical practice at JF&CS is ongoing supervision and consultation with other clinicians. A core tenant is that professional growth and development does not end with advanced licensure; therefore ongoing supervision and consultation is essential regardless of how experienced one is.
Maintaining an active therapy practice is an important part of Dan’s tenure at JF&CS. When he began at JF&CS in 1997, he worked primarily with children and adolescents and was instrumental in developing this aspect of our clinical practice. He has continued this work, as well as working with adults and couples. Therapy with adolescents and men are specific areas of interest in Dan’s current clinical work. He is also pursuing more training on utilizing principles of mindfulness.
Dan earned a Certificate in Advanced Clinical Supervision from Smith College School of Social Work. He supervises staff clinicians, as well as meeting regularly with the graduate interns who are training at the agency.
