Meet the Dream Team That Can Support Your Child This School Year

Our comprehensive team of specialists are here to support your child.

As the school year kicks off, families everywhere are checking supply lists and lacing up new sneakers. But for many, there’s a deeper layer of preparation: making sure your kids feel supported academically, emotionally, and socially. At the Horwitz-Zusman Child & Family Center (HZ), we offer a comprehensive team of specialists to meet your child where they are and help them move forward with confidence.

Specialty Services:

Psychoeducational Assessments: Lauralee Bernstein, M.A. & Lori A. Wilson, Ph.D.

Understanding how your child learns is often the first step toward helping them succeed. Dr. Wilson and Lauralee conduct comprehensive psychoeducational assessments that explore a child’s cognitive, academic, social-emotional, and behavioral functioning. These evaluations can identify learning disabilities, ADHD, or emotional factors that may be getting in the way of school success. Just as important, the assessments also highlight a child’s strengths and offer specific, personalized recommendations for support at home and in the classroom. These insights can be powerful tools for families and educators working together to help children reach their full potential.

Parent Coaching and Family Support: Wendy Grocoff Rudd, CPC

Sometimes it’s not just the kids who need support—parents do, too. Wendy provides individualized coaching to help caregivers navigate everyday parenting challenges with increased confidence and connection. Her work focuses on enhancing family communication, problem-solving difficult dynamics, and building confidence in parenting decisions. Wendy creates a safe space to talk through frustrations, fears, and questions while offering practical tools that fit the family’s unique rhythm. With her support, parents can create a more harmonious home environment.

Executive Function Coaching: Marlena Reese, Ed.D.

Executive functioning skills are critical for academic success, and students sometimes need additional support to develop these skills. Dr. Reese partners with students to create individualized strategies for success while building these internal skill sets. Her coaching blends structure with compassion, helping kids set goals, manage tasks, stay motivated, and develop a greater sense of self-awareness and resilience.

Neurodevelopmental Medical Services: Howard Schub, M.D.

Dr. Schub adds a critical medical component to the HZ Center’s comprehensive approach. A longtime leader in pediatric neurology and former chief of neurology at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Dr. Schub specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of developmental disabilities, autism, ADHD, learning and emotional disorders, and pediatric movement disorders such as tics and Tourette Syndrome. He works with both children and adults, offering families the medical insight needed to determine appropriate treatment.

Clinicians:

Our clinicians support children and families navigating a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges. Whether a child is struggling with anxiety, attention, learning differences, or social skills, our team helps uncover what’s beneath the surface and provides personalized, practical strategies for growth. Using evidence-based approaches, we work to strengthen emotional regulation, boost confidence, improve focus, and support overall well-being—at home, at school, and in everyday life.
