Start the Jewish New Year off with a mitzvah and donate food to the JF&CS Food Pantry!
September is Hunger Action Month, and the start of the JF&CS High Holidays Food Drive. The drive will take place September 10 - October 10, 2023. For more than 40 years, food from the annual High Holidays Food Drive has been the main source of donations for the JF&CS Food Pantry, and with your help we will continue to feed those most in need!
Nearly one in eight Georgians is living with food insecurity, including one in six children.
JF&CS Kosher Food Pantry impact on the Jewish Community (as of June 2023):
- Households Served: 2,325; 45 weekly average
- People Served: 3,697; 75 weekly average
- Seniors Served: 2,637; 54 weekly average
- Children Served: 496; 11 weekly average
In all, more than 7,000 households and 30,000 people with food insecurity have been supported though the food pantry so far this year.
The need continues to grow, affecting approximately 15 new households per week. With rising prices on food, gas, and essentials, many community members may find themselves in need once again – or for the first time ever.
Last year, 65 food barrels were each filled with approximately 200 pounds of carefully selected items – donated by young school children and families going to high holiday services. Hearty soups, protein-packed tuna, and filling grains continue to be the staples that JF&CS Food Pantry clients need.
Mitzvah Day is September 10th, so consider supporting this food drive as a mitzvah project with your family!
