Monique had been fighting addiction for years, and now she was finally in recovery. She had spent six months at a women's recovery shelter, and was determined to turn her life around. She was ready for a fresh start and did not want to return to her job in the restaurant industry.
She wanted to increase her skill level, move to her own residence, and secure a sustainable living wage.
The shelter referred her to JF&CS Career Services.
After speaking with an understanding JF&CS career coach, it was determined that she would be a great candidate for the computer certification course in partnership with Per Scholas. She had a knack with computers, and was a quick learner.
Monique passed all the requirements to participate in the 12-week IT Support training. The certification would equip her with with the knowledge to fill a wide range of entry-level technology jobs. It would also help her work toward employment that would allow her to be self-sufficient and take care of her family.
Monique was ready for a change. She studied hard for three months and completed the course. She was so excited to receive her certification!
She also attended and completed four JF&CS job readiness workshops and soft skills trainings. In addition, she met with professionals at the Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency and worked with the Per Scholas employment department.
Monique was offered a job in her field and began working in a new full-time position in June.
Congrats Monique on your new career!
