We’re counting down the days to The Tasting on May 4! This premier annual extravaganza is an integral fundraiser for the nonsectarian Zimmerman-Horowitz Independent Living Program. Z-H ILP helps adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities thrive and live full lives, while providing as much support as needed. Clients also attend The Tasting, enjoying the event as has been tradition since the first Tasting in the late 90’s.
As we anticipate the big night, we want to introduce you to a few of our them; and since one of the highlights of the night is sampling the incredible food, we found out everyone’s favorite fare. Keep reading to also learn who’s dancing to Whitney Houston, who works with horses, and who has a passion for politics.
Andrea:
Andrea is in her late 30’s and has worked as a greeter at Home Depot for more than seven years. In her free time, she enjoys exploring the inner workings of computers and tech gadgets. She is passionate about music, particularly live music. Her favorite concert was the Escape Anniversary concert, and her favorite artists are Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson. Andrea loves getting her hair done, and her favorite food is Chinese-honey chicken, specifically.
Seth
Seth is in his early 40’s and has worked for 10 years at a case management company. He is the unofficial mayor of his home; he’s built great relationships with his housemates and colleagues over the years. If something is wrong or needs to be fixed, Seth’s the go-to guy. He’s very interested in politics, voting regularly and staying on top of the news. He’s also gifted at fixing electronics. The way to his heart is spaghetti and meatballs.
Hank and Laura:
Hank:
Hank grew up on a farm with his family and has a special affinity for animals. When it came time for employment, JF&CS was able to connect him with a local farm where he enjoys caring for the horses and goats. Hank is in his 30’s and a very happy-go-lucky kind of guy. In his free time, he loves riding his bicycle and watching old movies like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. For the last two years he’s been building a huge ball of yarn! His favorite foods are chicken tenders and green beans.
Laura:
Laura is in her late 30’s and is Hank’s sister. She recently got a job with AutoZone and enjoys working part-time there. When she gets home from work, her space is decorated in all things Disney — she’s a superfan! She enjoys going on vacations with her parents when she can. Her favorite food of all time is pizza.
Ronielle:
Ronielle is one of our newest and youngest clients. She is thriving in high school and is due to graduate this May 2023, while living in our host home program. Her future goal is to work in the grocery retail industry. In her free time, Ronielle enjoys dancing, listening to music, and going for walks in the neighborhood. She loves getting her nails done, and her favorite foods are pizza and mac & cheese.
