Talking Heads

November 23, 2020

10:30am to 11:30am

A JCC Sponsored Program

Moderators: Open Discussion

Topic: Thanksgiving realities, plans, concerns, fears, suggestions

As we approach the one-year anniversary of the outbreak, coronavirus continues to change the way we live our lives. Halloween was much more reserved than in past years, and Thanksgiving will also be substantially modified. Government and health officials have been cautioning those still planning in-person celebrations with dire warnings that even bigger spikes are ahead if we don’t stay distant, wear masks, wash hands and avoid indoor gatherings of people outside our households.

1. What are your plans to “celebrate” Thanksgiving this year? If you do have a virtual or in-person celebration, will “political talk” be permitted, encouraged, restricted or totally off limits?

2. How does it compare with last year’s holiday?

3. What are your prognostications for Thanksgiving for next year (2021)?

4. Since this marks the beginning of the traditional “holiday season,” what are your thoughts regarding Alan Shapiro’s (and his wife’s) suggestion that they take the money they would spend on Chanukah or Christmas gifts and donate that amount to the Atlanta Community Food Bank or another charity serving those in need?

E-mail Ashley Maloy at or Caren Kern at to RSVP and receive the Zoom link.
