Jewish Family & Career Services is seeking professional artists, hobbyists, craftspeople and those that just want to lend a helping hand to its newest initiative: The Artists’ Collective at Independence Works. The goal is to engage JF&CS clients through engaging art activities on a regular basis.
IndependenceWorks (IW) is a day program for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities such as ASD, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, etc. JF&CS’ main goal is community inclusion, so we work hard to get our clients out in the community as much as possible, as well as expose them to engaging programming here at the center. This programming includes vocational lessons and skill development, cooking, computer skills, sensory integration, and other areas of enrichment (like art!). We have a brand new, beautiful building that the clients utilize every day; we have an awesome art room that is perfect for our art activities.
JF&CS is trying to recruit and engage a group of like-minded individuals who value the therapeutic value and fun of art!! We are seeking volunteers to assist with creating and implementing adapted one-hour art projects (e.g., abstract painting, tie-dying, pumpkin decorating, beading, and anything else you can imagine) for approximately 12 clients with the help of an assistant volunteer and two JF&CS staff members.
Our goal is to fill a calendar (potentially bi-weekly depending on interest) of engaging and creative activities for our clients by amazing community volunteers. We need your help spreading the word to your networks for the following:
- Lead Project Volunteers (professional artist, hobbyist, or crafty person) in charge of creating and implementing the art project. Downloadable Job Description [pdf]
- Assistant Volunteers who can work with the Lead to help set-up, assist clients, and clean-up. Downloadable Job Description [pdf]
There will be a volunteer orientation on Thursday, December 13th at 11 am at the JF&CS offices.
