Get Ready for Mitzvah Day 2021

On Sunday October 3rd, 50+ young professionals and families will spend the day giving back throughout the Atlanta community. Mitzvah Day is back this year, and Committee Chairs, Nate Sauer and Doriet Fischer are excited to be able to host it this year.

“I am thrilled to be part of JF&CS Mitzvah Day 2021. Mitzvah Day is a great way for volunteers to create new connections and gain meaningful experiences within the community. Mitzvah Day is unique in that it provides volunteers with a myriad of community service opportunities throughout the Atlanta area allowing each volunteer to select an experience that is the most meaningful and exciting to them," said co-chair Doriet Fischer.

This year’s projects are all outdoors, and masks are required. Volunteers can choose to work at Concrete Jungle, Trees Atlanta, Park Pride: Murphy Candler Park, Park Pride: Atlanta Beltline and Campbellton Community Gardens. Young families will also be shopping for the JF&CS Food Pantry and participating in a PJ Library activity, and PAL Program matches and families will be helping at Jewish Home Life Communities, and being part of a fashion show.

"Mitzvah Day is a great opportunity to accentuate Jewish values with other like-minded individuals by working with JF&CS on one of a wide variety of volunteer projects as we engage with the Atlanta community on the first Sunday of October. Mitzvah Day holds a special place in my heart as it was one of the first real opportunities, I had to jumpstart my involvement in the Atlanta Jewish community after moving here in September of 2018," said Nate Sauer, co-chair of Mitzvah Day.

Nate participated in the Tritt Leadership Program in 2019, and became a Big PAL in 2020.

"Not only does it provide the chance to give back to numerous outstanding organizations in Atlanta, but it also provides the opportunity to meet people, make connections, and maintain a thriving Jewish community that can be here to support all of us in the future," he said.

The day of service will end with a Happy Hour at Big Sky Buckhead from 4:30pm-6:30pm for all Mitzvah Day volunteers 21 years and up. Attendees will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test from within the last 48 hours.
